When styling your cupboard, sideboard or display cabinet it is important to start with a clean slate. So your sideboard needs to be completely empty. Make sure that the cupboard you are going to style matches your interior and your living requirements. Every cupboard has advantages and disadvantages but with the right styling you get everything out of the cupboard highlighting and styling your fantastic interior.
With an open cupboard or display cabinet you can go in all directions in terms of styling. It can be the place to exhibit tangible memories, store your favourite book collection, display beautiful craftsmanship or collect colourful home accessories. You can fill a display cabinet with lavish eye-catchers or with quieter items in a certain colour style. Everything in the open cupboard can be seen and you can change the things as often as you want.

If a certain material fits well with your interior such as wood, glassware or fabric make sure to fill your open display cabinet or cupboard with accessories from those materials. Don’t be tempted to put all similar things next to each other. By playing more with the height of the items you can create depth in your sideboard, display cabinet or cupboard. A high candlestick next to a lower photo frame or plant pot provides depth and a nice dynamic scenery. Also have a play with the places where you put accessories. Not everything on the front of the shelves but some items further placed to the back than others.

Because of the height of a sideboard this type of cupboard is ideal for placing items on top. Some people place their TV on or above a sideboard. But even then you can still do a lot with the top of the sideboard. In this case the ‘less is more’ principle applies. Too many accessories on your sideboard makes the space messy. So choose some striking items that stand out in terms of colour, style or size. A large vase for example with beautifully dried flowers. You can also play with depth on the sideboard by choosing accessories of different heights and arranging them nicely on the sideboard.
